The real-time Particulate Matter (PM2.5) data displayed on this page is for public information reporting and forecasting only. Per state and federal regulations, it is not used for attainment determination purposes.

Compared to ground-level ozone programs, PM2.5 monitoring, forecasting and mapping is still in its infancy. Fine Particulate Matter, known as PM2.5, is a complex mixture that may contain soot, smoke, metals, nitrates, sulfates, dust, water and tire rubber. It can be directly emitted, as in smoke from a fire, or it can form in the atmosphere from reactions of gases such as nitrogen oxides.
