Air Quality Forecast and Weather Discussion
Saturday, cold overnight temperatures will generate a strong temperature inversion, trapping pollutants near the surface. Therefore, despite light northerly daytime winds gradually bringing cleaner air into the Sacramento region, particle levels will be low-Moderate. Sunday and Monday, cold overnight temperatures will generate strong temperature inversions each evening, continuing to trap pollutants near the ground. In addition, an upper-level ridge of high pressure will strengthen over northern California, reducing vertical mixing in the atmosphere. Furthermore, calm to light winds at the surface will reduce pollutant dispersion. As a result, particle levels will be Moderate on both days.
