Reduce Wood Smoke in Our Region
Each county in the Sacramento region has its own program for dealing with wood smoke pollution.

Check Before You Burn is the Sacramento Metropolitan AQMD's law that restricts or prohibits wood burning in Sacramento County and its cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Galt, Isleton, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento when PM2.5 pollution is forecast to be unhealthy to breathe - Check Before You Burn

Check Before You Burn season is in effect. Thank you for not burning. Your compliance on no-burn days reduces pollution and positively impacts the health of our residents.

Yolo-Solano AQMD issues voluntary Don't Light Tonight advisories for Yolo County and northeastern Solano County.

El Dorado County AQMD offers incentives for County residents to replace or remove non-EPA certified woodstoves.

Air Quality Forecast and Weather Discussion
Saturday, calm to light south-southeasterly winds will reduce pollutant dispersion and gradually transport regional pollutants into the Sacramento area. Therefore, particle levels will be high-Moderate. Sunday, an upper-level trough of low pressure will move into California, enhancing mixing in the atmosphere. Furthermore, moderate and gusty westerly winds will effectively disperse pollutants. These conditions will yield Good particle levels. Monday, cold overnight temperatures will trap pollutants near the ground, and light early morning winds will reduce pollutant dispersion. However, moderate northerly winds developing by mid-morning will enhance mixing in the atmosphere and aid pollutant dispersion. As a result, particle levels will be low-Moderate.
